MORAL PANIC is the NJ Institute for Social Justice's first film that brings together the voices of policymakers, law enforcement, community-based activists, faith leaders, educators, researchers, and gang members themselves, who explain their own motivations, aspirations, and challenges. The 30-minute film features original interviews with Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Newark Police Director Garry McCarthy, Dr. Mercer Sullivan of Rutgers School of Criminal Justice, Dr. David Kennedy of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Judith Greene of the Justice Policy Institute, Ras Baraka, Newark activist and Principal of Central High School, Dr. Robert Johnson of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and relevant community groups such as Stop Shootin', Street Warriors, and Saving Our Selves, among many others.
The film, which is directed by Akintola Hanif and produced by Rick Greenberg, features interviews with gang members themselves who explain their motivations, aspirations, and challenges.
Funding for the project is provided by the JEHT Foundation. For more information visit the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice's website.
